5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent price for a great game, February 9, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rome: Total War Gold Edition (DVD-ROM)
Not only do you get the full game but also the expansion pack for a reasonable price. The replay value of both titles alone definately justifies the expense. I cannot recommend this game enough. Even after almost 2 years on the market I can still pick it up every couple months and march my Legions to conquest.

Below are my comments for each game.

ORIGINAL ROME: TOTAL WAR

This is the game I've always wanted to play. It has such a superb blend of strategy and real time action. Ever play a turn based strategy game and want to really watch your troops battle it out and control the formations and tactics? Now you can. Of course there will be something people don't like, but there are many mods out there to tweak it to your exact taste. The Total War community is healthy in that there is a significant population tweaking and modding the game to your particular flavor.

Let me just say also I am not a RTS fan. I do not like "whomever clicks the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Strategic combat at its best, May 11, 2006

This review is from: Rome: Total War Gold Edition (DVD-ROM)
While I am personally more fond of Rome's predecessor, Medieval: Total War, the latest in the Total War series is nothing short of excellent. Much has been improved on, especially the real-time combat and gameplay mechanics. The meek AI, underdeveloped naval combat, and drab visuals that marred Medieval have been done away with for the latest installation.

One of the greatest strengths of the series has always been its ability to capture the truly epic feel of worldwide warfare, regardless of whether you are looking over the whole of Europe or watching rank-and-file armies advancing upon each other. This is especially true with the new 3D combat engine, which is vastly superior to Medieval's. The units are all fully modeled and animated, and the camera is much more maneuverable, allowing you to get up close. This isn't very handy from a command standpoint, but it really makes the battles come alive. Battles in cities and forts are also much more fun, since they are more... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars More addicting than Civ or Pirates, April 25, 2007

This review is from: Rome: Total War Gold Edition (DVD-ROM)
I'm not what would be called an intensive gamer. I buy maybe 2 games a year. This is the most addictive game I've played since the original Pirates came out for the Commodore 64 home computer. I would play that game for literally 6 hours or more at one sitting. This is just as bad. I'm 37 now and not 14 like I was then too, but I'm having flashbacks LOL! It helps that I'm absolutely fascinated with the late republic/early imperial period of the Roman empire. I've played the historical campaign of the original through twice. Haven't even touched Barbarian Invasion yet, except to watch the intro. Has the "4X" feel of a Civilization style game, but without all the micromanagement. New buildings provide benefits to population control, revenue, and combat units. Pretty basic. Where the game shines is in the tactical battles. You can literally zoom in on an individual soldier.

My only criticisms are that there aren't enough historical battles in my opinion, and that... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Felt the need to shed a little light on a few things., August 17, 2010

This review is from: Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 with 7.1 Surround Sound (Personal Computers)
First, off, I've only had this headset for a day. I can't really go into detail about sound quality, how good the surround sound is, etc. However, I feel like I need to clarify a couple of things.

There are two major issues that people have been complaining about with this headset: the "flimsy plastic" joints holding the ear cups on, and the lack of a graphic equalizer. Please disregard anyone who mentions either of these two "problems," because it is completely false.

If you look closely at the ear cup joints, yes, there is plastic there. However, if you pay attention, the plastic isn't actually the part that's moving. It's merely a covering for the actual joint. On the back of the box, under "Durability," it clearly states that the joints are made from an aircraft grade aluminum alloy. This is a very well made product guys, I get no sense that, if treated properly (take your game rage out on something that costs a bit less, children) it will ever break... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, but G-Keys limited, and Ventrilo PTT Now (11/11) Works, September 16, 2010

11/26/11 Update: Ventrilo PTT key now works very nicely. You can set up a standard keyboard key to PTT from the keyboard, and a G-Key to PTT from the headset when you are AFK. I have used the headset for more than 1 year now, a minimum of 3x3hr sessions per week on Ventrilo and a few hours a week on Skype. The headset has performed perfectly. Upgraded the rating to 5-stars which applies if you are purchasing these to game and use Ventrilo.

[Previous review follows, edited to show PTT now works.]

First off, the G930 is physically a nice headset. Adjustable, comfortable, not too heavy compared to other full-sized, circumaural headphones. I'll leave full judgement on the quality of sound to others, since these older ears are no longer qualified to critique. But I *can* say you get clear, soft or loud sound from them :)

This review is from: Razer Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound USB Gaming Headset (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought pre-ordered this headset from Razer's website a few days before they were released. I eagerly popped the awesome packaging open (watch Razer's unboxing video on YouTube if you haven't already) and threw them on.

The Megalodon's are by far the most comfortable computer headphones I've worn. The headband padding is cushy and keeps the headset from feeling too heavy on your noggin. The earcups, which go around your ears, are very soft and padded well. If anyone owned the Barracudas, some people (myself included) had issues where their ears would actually rest directly on the speakers and get sore after a while. Not with these babies! The padding is excellent and the earcups are very deep.

The mic is permanently attached and can rotate 270 degrees. The control pod is easy to use and let's you adjust the volume of each individual speaker channel and the bass separately. You can also of course switch between 2.1 and 7.1 modes with the press of a button... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, November 26, 2009

First off this thing is amazing. Just the packaging it comes in is coo. As soon as I opened it I had my laptop on plugged it in and put it on. It worked without having to configure anything. So easy to use, the best sound quality ever, insane comfort, everything about this headset is almost to good to be true. Although my favorite thing about it is the braided wire. The wire does not get all messed up like a tradition wire and you dont get that anoying problem where you have to be constantly finding that sweet spot in the wire to make the sound work (some people should know what i am talking about). This is definently worth it.

Was using windows 7 and works like a charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars If It Fits Your Needs Then Its Perfect..., August 1, 2011

This review is from: Razer Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound USB Gaming Headset (Black) (Personal Computers)
My experience with the Megalodon is a pleasant one and I would recommend to all who want the upper hand in gaming. I got this beautiful headset after about 5 days using 5-8 day shipping so Im extremely happy with that. Now let me get started on my actual review.

- Sound Quality - Upon first listen it just sounded extremely hollow in 7.1 on things that actually were 7.1 but in 2.1 things sounded not as loud as they should have been. Now this may seem to you a giant problem at first but after I had updated the driver from Razer's website and listening to music (Preferably Skrillex =D) for about 3 hours seeing if they needed to be "burned" in a little bit I came to a conclusion that it was either a case of getting used to the headset or if the headset actually needed to be burned in a little bit with some straining stuff on the headset. You can be the judge, because all I know is this headset is amazing. Listening to music is the first thing I did when I got the headset and... Read more
